Fastest hands in the wasd
My thumb naturally rests on the spacebar, and I have easy access to Enter, Shift, Ctrl, and Alt, which cuts down on the amount of key reconfiguration I have to do. Over the years, I've found that IJKL is the best left-handed setup.
Numpad is a better option, but again you have a limited number of keys, and you have to use your pinky too much, which is fatiguing and slow. I would have to take my fingers off the arrow keys and reach up to press other keys, which is too slow for many games. There's a large expanse of empty space around the arrows keys, and Home/End/PgUp/PgDn are too far away, at least on my Logitech keyboard. Sure, the arrow keys and the numpad are options, but I run out of keys. View image here: - A troll who goes out of his way to italicize stupid. First, use the arrow keys for movement, stupid, and not some weird key combination like W, A, S, D.

It's the only way to go as the keyboard is set-up perfectly for left-hand on mouse, especially for PC FPS games. I improved significantly after I started using the WASD layout instead of the arrow keys, also, I used to use an MS ergonomic keyboard, and the split in the middle is convenient for finding keys. It takes a while to get used to, but it's worth it. There's a some variation of course, for example, in Tribes, I use right mouse button for jetpack and space for ski, and on my laptop I'll use command for crouch instead of control because the function button is where control normally is, which I can't bind to anything because it's a pure modifier key that controls hardware functions. Scroll wheel and numbers = weapons selectionįorward mouse shoulder button (on my MX Revolution) = meleeīack mouse shoulder button = zoom (assuming it's a separate function from secondary fire, and the game has secondary fire, for example in Call of Duty I'd bind this to right mouse button, but in Tribes I'd put in on the shoulder). Left and right mouse = fire and secondary fire M = map (if it's an Operation Flashpoint style map, if it's an overlay, it goes to tab instead) G = grenades (if they don't need to be equipped as a normal weapon)
How are your keys laid out?į = use (used to use E, but as more games started having lean functions, I've been using F globally rather than as an exception) So not necessarily Counter Strike, but FPS in general. Leave it up to me and I'll most assuredly pick the most random, hard to reach key for critical functions like reloading. I need to know what you're using in your layout. And this is the part where you guys come in. So I guess what it really boils down to is I need to stick with WASD until I can get used to where everything is positioned. I've crashed a couple games a number of times already 'cause of that damned thing.

I'm not sure either of these keys are a good idea for anything because of the Windows key. Right now I'm using ctrl for jump and alt for crouch. Like writing.īut then the buttons around WASD add to the fun. But for some reason, just doing basic movement it feels like I'm trying to use my left hand for something it wasn't intended.
I don't know why WASD itself is so hard for me, they're arranged the same as the arrow keys. I can't figure out any good key combos that make sense to me. I've been playing around in Counter Strike and let me tell you I am saved by speed in aiming alone. More and more keyboards have funky arrow placement, tiny and/or weirdly shaped keys that are above the arrow keys. The problem is that this keyboard and many others these days are being made so that my normal key layout for games no longer works. Okay so I've got a new keyboard and it's a Microsoft ergo keyboard 'cause I do a lot of general typitty typitty.
